SHARE INTERNATIONAL ADULT LITERACY PROGRAM
      SIAL is a branch of SICoK that specializes in Adult Literacy.
      The purpose is to have all Turkana people read the Bible for themselves.
      Illiteracy rate in Turkanaland now stands at 88%!
      The joy of seeing Turkana adults read and write is almost unspeakable!
      The SIAL program is making it happen!
      The program’s team of 6 Christian teachers is staying focused, ensuring that, besides learning how to read and write, the primary purpose of the program is to enable the reading of the Bible, an integral part of SI’s discipleship strategy. The SI Board witnessed that happen in February.
      The SIAL program has a total of 165 students - 78 men and 87 women. The students have been divided into three classes - Beginners (112 students), Intermediate (36), and Advanced (17). Classes are taught Monday through Friday, two hours a day.
      Each student has to attend classes for three years before sitting governmentsanctioned exams that certify qualification at different achievement levels.
      The government also trains the teachers that serve under SI.
      The teachers have reported of many students putting their faith in Christ as Savior in the course of the program.
      SI hopes to open three more adult literacy classes in three other villages where churches have been planted. Some of the major needs in the program include writing and reading materials, and transportation for the teachers.
